Dissidia Final Fantasy announced for arcade By Erren Van Duine on February 13, 2015 at 11:52 PM

The new title teased for arcades for the past couple weeks has been revealed to be a re-working of Dissidia Final Fantasy for a new era. Square Enix revealed the title at Japan Amusement Expo in Chiba today along with the first images and details on the game.

Dissidia for arcades will make use of a 3 on 3 battle system, with the structure of combat and its framing different from the original PSP versions. Y’shtola from Final Fantasy XIV will be joining the game’s roster, although the company couldn’t really say if a Final Fantasy XV rep is in the cards yet or not. Square Enix is planning on sharing more information at a press conference on April 10th, but for now they’ve opened a teaser site with a short trailer you can watch below.

  • Pleasance13

    What is going on? O:

  • Wazi the pa

I’d like for this game to be ported to the PS4 PLEASE!

  • Yeah, would they really tease us with this and then not bring it to PS4? I’ve actually never had the chance to play Dissidia so I’d love to get a chance in this version which looks like it’ll finally do the idea justice!

  • Randy Marsh

    PS4 port! Please!

Also, Y’shtola again? She’s been in like 6 side FF games and LoV2, can we please get a break from her? 😐

  • Eek. Even mobile is accessible. But arcades? Port! Port! >.<

  • Seed

wow what the…………i want this now

  • Sathil

  • 4FFAN

THE HYPE IS REEEAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!! THEY BETTER PORT THIS TO PS4!!!!

  • I still want a full 3d remake of ff6. Seeing Terra kick ass just rekindled that urge in me.

  • Dustin McFadden

Does anyone else notice hope unfinished the game looks as a whole? I really hope it looks better when it’s released, lol.

  • It would be crazy not to release this on PS4. 🙂

  • LGFFan

when i finally see Auron in Dissidia, then and only then will i be interested.

  • Noneofyourbusiness

That’s because she’s the FFXIV signature character now. If they want to represent FFXIV in a side game, they use Y’shtola.

  • LukesAlike

I hope it doesn’t have a story to it; that was over and done with.

  • Noctis Caelum

I hope noctis is in it.and that it comes out before ffxv does.lololol
#FFxv is what i lived for , i could care less about the final fantasy franchise as a whole.#I could do with a baaawth.

  • If they used this correctly, it could really become the counter part for smash bros. In that it includes a whole bunch of characters from different universes that would otherwise never hope to meet each other. I think a Dissidia on next-gen is a no-brainer!

  • AphroditeBoy

I would buy a whole console just for this game alone. It’s the main reason I purchased a PSP all those years ago when the first Dissidia was released. I hope with this new console there is a renaissance of sorts for Final Fantasy.

  • AphroditeBoy

I think that the models have just really been lifted from the original Dissidia cut-scenes – Terra especially looks just like she did in the Dissidia 012 cinematic. They may try to touch them up a bit before final release, but I think they look good regardless. Dissidia has a lot of comedic humor and is really a lot more ‘animated’ than the average Final Fantasy title, so I think the less detailed visuals kind of fit.

  • kepu

Yes. That was the first thing that come my mind when watching this video. Perhaps these models are not that badly modeled and may even contain quite high polygon count and sharp textures (probably not), but the lightning is totally off and I feel that no modern techniques have been used to improve surfaces of those models.

That forest though looks quite nice and not bad “skybox” but it’s surprising that these models look this bad in this kind of demo. Perhaps they are using pieces from other games to build fastly and easily a nice looking scenario but haven’t really invested in models and other parts. Hopefully this means that they are using most of their resources on the FF 15 and this kind of arcade/mobile spin-offs doesn’t eat that much off their capacity.

  • Seed

I wonder if the stuff of Square-enix is looking also to the comments of Novacrystallis 😀

  • Nick Greeley

This. Nevermind 7, 6 needs to be remade from scratch (well, I’d honestly play any of them if they were remade lol). I feel like 6 would be amazing if it were remade as an ARPG a la FFXV

  • Krijn van Alten

I think you mean the staff.

  • stevenm281

so far this game is for Arcade only

  • stevenm281

Idk, while I would love a 6 remake, I think I’d still want it as a traditional RPG. On the other hand, I would see a 7 or 8 remake as ARPG.

  • stevenm281

funny how smartsphones arent that smart..

  • Nick Greeley

Pretty much any FF game would make a great ARPG if done right (maybe not 10, due to it’s more-closed world). I’d be down to play any of them haha

  • Martian Wong

    Or maybe too smart….

  • 6 really is a big deal. The big deal was it was the las sprites ff but the story was on par with ff9 or 8. Its was great. Locke, Terra, sabin, cyan, and kefka. All the characters having their own skills and traits. Perfect. 7 is great too but I think they’d be under less pressure making It. But I want both.

  • alexis

    YES PREACH

  • Being a big fan of japanese arcade fighters myself, I can assure you than the majority of arcade games like this get console releases within a year or two.

  • AphroditeBoy

I know. It’s sad, but it gives hope of a potential console port.

  • Dustin McFadden

The quality reminds me of the Dead Fantasy series. That would be great if this wasn’t from the official team, but that’s not the case. Also in regards to your theory that they just lifted the characters strait from the PSP games like that, I’m sure they would have put some effort into it like they did with Type-0 or the Kingdom Hearts collections. Also the cutscene models aren’t playable because they were prerendered. I’m thinking they’ll probably flesh things out before the final product rolls in because it’s definitely not like Square-Enix to lower their standards in the visuals department. I also expect a console release in America.

  • stevenm281

maybe they don’t care much about arcade visuals… then again, I find them amazing when compared to the PSP version.

  • AphroditeBoy

You’re right about the pre-rendered cutscenes. I didn’t think about that. The models must not have been lifted directly, but they definitely look suspiciously similar to their cutscene counterparts. And this is entirely subjective, but to me, the models already look better than the Type-0 update. But visually, they are both more PS3 than PS4 level.

  • Dustin McFadden

One thing I can say about this style of graphics is that it’s very Amano heavy and I really do like that but even then, it’s just missing something that will probably be touched on later.

  • Dustin McFadden

I dunno, the PSP models had more detail to them. These character models obviously have more TO them and that alone makes them detailed, but the PSP models look way more fleshed out than the models in this video.
