Square Enix has released a new batch of screenshots for World of Final Fantasy today. These screenshots were featured in yesterday’s issue of Famitsu and Dengeki Playstation and have since been uploaded to official Square Enix sources.

According to a new press release, main characters Reynn and Lann meet a mysterious woman named Enna Kros who guides them into the world of Grymoire. Along the way, the siblings encounter notable characters, locations and monsters familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy series – including Lightning from FFXIII and the town of Cornelia from the original Final Fantasy.

The new screenshots show off Mirages – powerful creatures that can turn the tide of any battle to aid Reynn and Lann. Players can take advantage of the game’s unique stacking mechanic to increase attack power and HP and unlock special abilities. Among the iconic Mirages are Shiva, Ramuh, Ifrit and Cerberus, each of which are ready to aid the player in battle. World of Final Fantasy also features train travel with the Cactuar Conductor for Reynn and Lann to journey across Grymoire.

World of Final Fantasy is due out on PS Vita and PS4 next year.
