Yoshinori Kitase explains inclusion of squats mini-game in Final Fantasy VII Remake; Thailand Game Show 2019 stage event archive

During Thailand Game Show 2019, Square Enix held a stage event for Final Fantasy VII Remake on October 26 with producer Yoshinori Kitase introducing the game to viewers and attendees.

Footage of the event has been archived and published by Square Enix Asia via Facebook:

In addition, Square Enix also posted a video of Kitase via Twitter discussing one particular feature from the remake. In it, he explains the development team’s reasoning behind the inclusion of the squats mini-game.

“Since we announced the remake, a lot of fans have speculated as to how far we would go in reproducing the elements that made the original great,” Kitase said. “We put a lot of care and attention into the cutscenes. But the fans of the original also have strong memories of things like the squats, too. So even though they are just little mini-games, the development team had a huge motivation to do them properly and remake them in a modern style.”

Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to release for PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020. Check here to view our coverage on the game so far.
