Mobius Final Fantasy will end service on June 30

Square Enix will end service for Mobius Final Fantasy on June 30th, according to a news post from the company today.

Available on iOS, Android, and Steam, the free-to-play game originally launched in 2015 with the goal of creating a mobile game with the quality of an HD title. The company says the decision was made in December 2019 to end service after the conclusion of the “Warrior of Despair” storyline. Sales of “Magicite,” a currency acquired by paid transaction, will end on March 31st.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all our players who have supported us since service began back on August 3, 2016.  It is with heavy heart that we must now bring you this sad news.

We will continue to implement updates to in-game events, including the conclusion of the Warrior of Despair story, until the end of service, so it is our fondest hope that you will see our adventurers’ fates out to the very last.

Thank you for fighting alongside the Warriors of Light and for being a part of the world of Mobius Final Fantasy. May you continue to bring the light of hope to those around you.”

In Mobius, players control a character named Wol, who is unceremoniously stranded in the world of Palamecia with no memories of his past. He eventually encounters allies in Echo the fairy, Mog the moogle, and Princess Sarah. The game will end after the conclusion. Battles are fought in turn-based fashion, by selecting elemental cards collected and strengthened by various items.

It’s unclear what future the playable game has once its online component is ended.
