Square Enix Japan just got done hosting a 'Square Enix Presents' event which featured Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata showing off video footage of the Final Fantasy XV demo, that's to come packaged with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, in action. We've taken notes on the important parts of the demo so those of you who missed it or those who can't speak Japanese can find out the latest. Events kicked off with the reveal of the first major piece of Final Fantasy XV merchandise in the form of a Noctis Play Arts Kai figure from Square Enix Products. The sculpt and design of the figure looks pretty impressive, and features full articulation as fans have come to expect from the Play Arts Kai line. After that, the crew got to the demo and an explanation of its controls - which, for the first time featured video of the Xbox One version of the game, followed by a more full and live gameplay demo from the PS4 version. Here’s a bunch of new Final Fantasy XV Demo screenshots
Square Enix has just released a new set of screenshots from Final Fantasy XV - all of which give a little glimpse at the areas and scenarios players will be able to tackle in the 'Episode Duscae' demo that comes packaged with the first-print run of Final Fantasy Type-0, due out next month. The screens will look familiar - these areas have been shown off in trailers for more or less a year now - but these presumably show what is more or less the final version of the demo in action. If you want to get your hands on the demo, you'll need to grab Type-0's first run, which is available for pre-order now. Check out the new shots below.

Square Enix reveals Mevius Final Fantasy for mobile devices
Square Enix has announced Mevius Final Fantasy, the latest spin-off from their big-budget series - and the game appears to be an interesting combination of mobile-based gaming with larger, more ambitious sensibilities more traditionally associated with console. While Square Enix has put out a number of ports of classic Final Fantasy games and smaller-scale FF projects on mobile, Mevius, revealed in Famitsu this week, is designed to be a traditional RPG for mobile that doesn't feel 'inferior' to a full console-based FF title. One of the ways the company hopes to achieve this is with its staff. The game's being produced by Yoshinori Kitase, a veteran of Final Fantasy VII, X and XIII, while it's being written by Kazushige Nojima, most famous for his work writing Final Fantasy VII. The character designs are coming from Toshiyuki Itahana, the man responsible for the more light-hearted designs of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and much of Final Fantasy IX. Assisting this well-known trio is a development team of "unprecedented" size for a mobile title. With this crew, Kitase tells Famitsu he hopes to recreate the feeling of a console Final Fantasy on mobile. Also confirmed in the Famitsu article are Abilities and Jobs for the game,
Square Enix release direct feed Final Fantasy XV tech demo footage
The folks over at Square Enix Japan have just put out a direct feed YouTube copy of the Final Fantasy XV technical demo that was first debuted a few weeks ago in Paris, while updating the game's official website in the process. While the footage lacks any of the interesting developer commentary that was found at the Paris Expo (discussion & translations of which can be found on our sister site's message board), the video does give a solid glimpse into the technology being used to build and power the game. On a technical level Final Fantasy XV is a strange game, as it's still using some of the early tech that powered it as Final Fantasy Versus XIII under the hood, combining that with elements from Square Enix's Luminous Engine, an expensive investment which strangely isn't being used for Kingdom Hearts III, Square Enix's other big Japanese triple-A bet. While not strictly powered by one engine, then, much about FF15 looks incredibly impressive, as this video demonstrates. Check it out for yourself below.
Final Fantasy XIV gets a Game of the Year re-release
Square Enix has announced that its successful MMO reboot, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, is to get a Game of the Year themed re-release next month, featuring some cool bonuses and additional content. The newly announced PC-only package, set to launch in Europe on the 14th November, features 5 exclusive art cards, a total 90 days of in-game subscription time, and access to the main game and all of the major content updates released thus far. It also comes in a special "Book of Diamonds" box - themed after the game's healing grimoire of the same name. The MMO do-over has seen impressive success since its original relaunch last year. A free trial to level 20 is now available if you're yet to check it out. This month a series of Final Fantasy XIV-themed fan events are set to take place across the globe, and first information on a full expansion pack is expected to surface. Japanese trademarks suggest that the expansion may be called "Blue Skies of Ishgard" or some other variation on that name.
Square Enix looking at HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D
Square Enix is looking at the possibility of doing a remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura has said in this week's Famitsu. Nomura said the company is considering putting a HD version of the game, originally released on Nintendo 3DS in 2012, as it's the only game in the series that hasn't been 'HD'ified' as yet. Considering the game's importance in the series timeline, this isn't of huge surprise. You could also put two-and-two together and have the realisation that any such remaster could form part of one massive HD collection for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ahead of Kingdom Hearts III featuring the two PlayStation 3 HD Collections and Dream Drop Distance. On the subject of KH3, Nomura added that development is going well, but noted there was problems on the design side due to engine-related problems. However, they are advanced in writing the game's scenario as well as world choices, as is design for Sora and Rikku's new outfits. He also mentioned that it was difficult in trying to choose new worlds for KH3 for the dev team. Nomura made a note as to saying Frozen was not confirmed for the game despite previous
Musical Magic: A chat with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy’s Creator
"The music of Final Fantasy has been really successful," Square Enix's Ichiro Hazama enthuses to me. "It's got a great following around the world - you see the concerts everywhere, the soundtrack releases... That's why I think this music works quite well as a basis for a game in any market." Hazama, producer on the Theatrhythm Final Fantasy titles, is explaining to me why he feels his strange little music-based, screen-tapping spin-off was not only successful in Japan, but in foreign markets also. At the time of our conversation, he's in the midst of preparing a Western release for that game's sequel, subtitled Curtain Call. What he says about the music of Final Fantasy is right, too: While the Super Mario Bros. theme or even the annoyingly catchy Angry Birds tune might be more widely recognizable, Final Fantasy is arguably the video game series with the most musical prestige. Taking a franchise largely focused around deliberately selecting actions from a menu, and marrying it to the action and reflex-based rhythm genre is a strange and difficult task indeed. It's there we begin when Hazama begins to talk through the creation of Theatrhythm. "Rhythm games are, of course, quite an established genre," he explains. "In my view, rhythm
Square Enix announces Dragon Quest Heroes
Square Enix took up a little bit of time at Sony Compunter Entertainment Japan and Asia's annual pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference to show off an unexpected new game today - a Dragon Quest spin-off developed by Dynasty Warriors (Musou) series studio Omega Force. The spin-off, Dragon Quest Heroes, appears to play like the Dynasty Warriors titles, showing classic Dragon Quest enemies en masse being cut down by familiar-looking characters. The usual over-the-top flair of the Musou games seems to be there, as does the scale, with tons of enemies in sight. The trailer boasts that the game will also feature action RPG elements. This isn't the first time Omega Force has married their unique and strangely addictive gameplay to other franchises - the team has created a number of successful spin-offs paired with Gundam, and their most recent title is a merging of Zelda and Musou, Hyrule Warriors. Dragon Quest Heroes is set to launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and a special edition PS4 console featuring Dragon Quest's infamous Metal Slime was also debuted at the event and will launch alongside the game in Japan. Check out the trailer below.
Will Final Fantasy XV be at E3? Predict for a chance to win prizes!
With Square Enix surprisingly quiet on the whole since last year's re-reveal of Final Fantasy Versus XIII as Final Fantasy XV, the current hot topic within the community is what sort of presence it will have at E3 2014 in a few weeks time - if it indeed has a presence at all. The debate has been pretty fierce, with some wondering if the game will go quiet for a little while longer after not being mentioned in earnest in Square Enix's recent financial reports and forecasts. We've decided to fuel that debate a little bit over on our slowly-growing community forums, Mognet Central - by creating a poll where people can put their prediction down in a more permanent fashion. Better still, those who guess correctly will be entered into a prize drawing to win some FF goodies from our box of tricks that we keep aside. We've got all sorts of stuff, from games old and new to plushies, phone charms and all sorts of other goodies... so we'll put together a nice little prize package for one of the folks who guesses correctly. First, though, you have to place your bet! We've picked four options - that the game
