Here's a look at Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition in action

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, which released on Nintendo’s Gamecube console back in 2003, was a departure from the single-player entries in the numbered series. It was a charming, lovingly-crafted game where you set out on a caravan with other youths to cleanse the world of a foul miasma that threatens it’s existence.

16 years later, the Remastered Edition will arrive on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS with a crossplay function so all platforms can play together. Progress will save across all platforms, where, you could play on your PlayStation 4 console at home and pick it back up on your phone at work or school.

Designed for couch co-op, but enjoyable single-player, the original Crystal Chronicles made use of the Gamecube’s connectivity to the GameBoy Advance handheld. By divvying out roles to different players, such as giving one player the area map and another the ability to detect treasure chests, it encouraged communication and cooperation. That’s the crux of its gameplay – everything from spell casting to crafting is done cooperatively with you and your caravan.

In the video below, you can check out new footage from this year’s Tokyo Game Show, in which we get a look at the smartphone version and cross-play between platforms.

The Remastered Edition sports HD resolutions as well as a remastered soundtrack, new monsters, new items, and new character customization options.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Remastered Edition launches on January 23rd, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android.
