As the release of Patch 5.3 “Reflections in Crystal” draws closer, Square Enix has been sharing more information on the third major update to follow Final Fantasy XIV‘s Shadowbringers expansion. This time we get a glimpse at the new tribe quests in Lakeland that feature Norvrandt’s dwarves, updates to New Game+, Trial Synthesis, and Sundry Splendors.
Before we begin, you can also check out additional information on the A Realm Reborn revamp and Unreal Trials here. You can also check our rundown of the latest Letter from the Producer Live broadcast which details more of the content to come.
Crafting-based tribe quests arrive with the dwarves. While you may have previously encountered them in Kholusia, it seems there’s a specific reason why they’ve set up a camp in Lakeland. Rewards will include exclusive minions and mounts, one of which may be pictured below…
“The people of Tomra aspire to follow in the footsteps of their hero, the Warrior of Darkness, by contributing to the prosperity of Norvrandt. Their ambitious plans will lead them far from home─and perhaps the doorstep of that very hero─as they labor to bring a design sketched by legendary dwarven smith Watts to life.” — Patch 5.3 Website
Crafting won’t simply get new dailies, but a new system called “Trial Synthesis” where you’ll be able to practice recipes without using up items you’ve collected. It looks like a useful tool for people who’ve been a bit shy with learning the ins and outs of crafting.
“Trial synthesis is here, offering a means to test your crafting skills without expending precious resources. Both new crafters seeking to hone their processes and veterans experimenting with tricky recipes are sure to find it a boon!”
The New Game+ system will be expanded to include class and job quests in Patch 5.3, then again in Patch 5.35 to include the A Realm Reborn main scenario. It’s worth mentioning that Patch 5.3 will see a big revamp to the A Realm Reborn scenario to improve the pacing of the quests and to onboard people towards the expansions easier.
“As of Patch 5.3, job quests are available in New Game+, allowing you to retrace your path to mastering your chosen profession. Patch 5.35 brings with it quests from A Realm Reborn, that you may relive the beginnings of your journey as the Warrior of Light.” — Patch 5.3 Website
In addition to new emotes, Patch 5.3 will introduce the “Sundry Splendors” vendors, which will house a wide variety of gear exchangeable for Allagan tomestones and other tokens without the need to fly to several locations across the world.
“Any adventurer worth their salt is sure to have amassed a wealth of tokens and tomestones during the course of their journey. While earning them is where the challenge lies, finding the right place to exchange them can often be something of a trial in itself. Fortunately, Rowena’s House of Splendors has now assigned vendors to major city-states as one-stop shops for sundry rewards!” — Patch 5.3 Website
Final Fantasy XIV is now available on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Mac.
