Triangle Strategy shares changes built on demo version's survey

Triangle Strategy, previously known as Project Triangle Strategy, is planned for release on March 4, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year, Square Enix released a “debut” demo that’s still available to try now. Later on, a survey was distributed to collect feedback on that demo to inform further development of the final product. The results of that feedback were published this week following a release date announcement in a Nintendo Direct presentation.

We learn that loading times during events have been reduced by 10 seconds, and the team plans to further reduce loading times by launch. Additionally, in the final version of the game, the number of times you are returned to the world map after viewing an event scene has been reduced, thereby lowering the amount of times you will have to sit through a loading sequence. Auto-play and Skip functions have been added to events and can be activated with press of the ZR button and + button respectively. Conversation logs have been added just incase you skip a line of dialogue, and there are now character profiles that appear on screen when a character is introduced. On the world map, the cursor speed has been increased when selecting events and icons for character episodes and side stories are now easier to distinguish.

For battles: “Easy,” “Default,” and “Hard” difficulties can be selected. Camera controls have been adjusted where you can now freely adjust the camera’s zoom and the perspective can be quickly changed by moving the right stick. The sensitivity with witch the camera can be rotated has been adjusted as well.

You can now change commands while hovering the cursor over an enemy within attack range to assess the estimated damage and accuracy rate with the command you are planning to use. Furthermore, a “Simulation Mode” will let you check the estimated results of actions against enemies in our out of your attack range. Icons have been added to distinguish an enemy’s type or weapon they’re using, and a visual emphasis to target lines extending from boss characters that may use powerful attacks. Hovering the cursor over enemies will now display their turn order, and is now displayed on the AT bar as well.

Various other changes and improvements have been added:

  • Controls for Serenoa during exploration phase have been improved.
  • A button input is now required to enter/leave houses (to prevent entering by mistake).
  • Panel colors when selecting a destination have been adjusted.
  • Added an icon indicating when a back attack is possible.
  • Added a feature that automatically creates quicksave data after a set number of turns during battle.
  • Implemented gameplay tips during loading screens.
  • Added a screen during battle preparation to show which units are or are not deployed.
  • Added a feature to display guides about terrain effects during battles.
  • Added a feature to allow the button guide information at the bottom of the screen to be hidden.
  • Added a feature to show a character’s final destination prior to using an ability that involves character movement.
  • Improved the display for buffs, debuffs, and the number of turns effects will last on objects.
  • Implemented a battle retry feature.
  • Button assignments have been adjusted.
