Final Fantasy XI’s May 2022 Update is now available.

In the latest developer digest, producer Akihiko Matsui and director Yoji Fujito share a breakdown of what’s new in the May 2022 update.

In Ambuscade, Volume One features Mamool Ja, while Volume Two features Pteraketos – both of them are returning bosses. In Volume One, the team adjusted the color of the Mamool Ja to match the color of their element for easier recognition. As for Volume Two, they increased the damage dealt when striking the enemy’s weakness. However this does make enmity management harder so Matsui warns tanks to be sure and keep things under control.

In this anniversary month of May, a Golden Bomb will be making an appearance in Volume Two – players can defeat it for a nice bonus. The version update will also adjust returning Ambuscade bosses.

Regarding The Voracious Resurgence scenario update, the story begins with none other than Maat himself. The team teases that it’s great timing for his appearance during the anniversary, and they hope you look forward to the story that will unfold.

As for miscellaneous updates, a new version of the “Vana’diel March” song has been composed by Naoshi Mizuta for the 20th anniversary titled “We Are Vana’diel”. The team describes it as “an uplifting melody that stirs your sense of adventure.” It will play when you’re in the title menu.

Additionally, as part of the anniversary celebrations, Cornelia’s Trust is back for the first time in over five years. You can use her starting with the May update through the November update.

Future updates will see the master level cap increased to 50 in phases starting from June through November. Odyssey will add one more stage to Veng and equipment upgrades. A fourth augment will be unlockable for weapons and armor, as well as a third augment for accessories.

The team is planning to implement a new battle content where you can obtain new job-specific accessories. Furthermore, material obtained from content will be used to upgrade Empyrean gear. The new battle content and reforging to +2 are planned for summer, while reforging to +3 is planned for winter.

Regarding prime weapons, it will take quite some time for implementation of a new series of strongest weapons and creating these weapons will require progression through The Voracious Resurgence scenario quests and the team advises that you may want to start them now so you can enjoy them leisurely before the implemementation.

Event-related

• A new chapter has been added to The Voracious Resurgence.
  Players must speak with Maat in Ru’Lude Gardens (H-5) after completing the quest Altennia Burns Bright to accept the newest quest.
• The monthly records of Eminence objectives have been swapped out.
• Cornelia’s alter ego is once again available for a limited time.
  
  • Obtaining the Alter Ego
    • If you have already completed the quest Trust, you will automatically receive the alter ego upon logging in for the first time after the May 10, 2022, Version Update. No notice will be displayed in the log window.
    • If you have not completed the quest Trust, you will automatically receive the alter ego upon completing the quest Trust and logging out or changing areas. No notice will be displayed in the log window.

Battle-related

• Ambuscade has undergone the following additions and adjustments.
  • The foes in Normal and Intense Ambuscades have been swapped out. As such, the corresponding Records of Eminence objectives have changed.
    
  • Intense Ambuscades have undergone the following adjustments.
    • Sextuple Razool Ja graphics and locations have been swapped between the fire and ice elemental versions.
    • In Very Difficult only, when a Sextuple Razool Ja is killed, other Sextuple Razool Jas under the effect of Sleep will awaken 33% of the time.
  • Ambuscades have undergone the following adjustments.
    • Golden Bombs will appear when certain conditions are met.
    • Natsilane’s vulnerabilities in certain modes have been increased from +200% to +300%
    • The number of abilities that Natsilane uses between the special ability used to change modes has been changed from 2-5 to 1-3.
  • Certain items obtainable in exchange for hallmarks have been swapped out.
  • Certain items obtainable for total hallmarks have been swapped out.
  • Certain items obtainable in exchange for badges of gallantry have been swapped out.
• Level adjustments have been abolished in Batallia Downs.
• New items have been added.
• Additional items can be stored via the Porter Moogle
  • Storage Slip 22: Ark Shield / Moogle Shirt / ??? / ??? / ???
• New music has been added to the title screen
  • Title screen music can be changed via the Config menu.

Resolved Issues

• The issue wherein using healing or enhancing magic spell while equipped with the Sroda Belt would cause no MP to be consumed under certain conditions.
• The issue wherein when the player does a victory emote during a cutscene, the emote would display improperly while equipped with certain lockstyles.
• The issue wherein while the player is at master level status in their main job and used Light Arts or Dark Arts while their support job is set to scholar, spells unusable by their main job had the effects of those abilities applied at the same magic skill level as their main job.
