Babylon’s Fall will terminate service on February 27, 2023
Publisher Square Enix and developer PlatinumGames are ending service for Babylon's Fall on February 27th, 2023 for all platforms. The live service action RPG looter was first revealed in 2018, and since its in March release has failed to capture enough an audience to keep the lights on. Maligned for its myriad technical woes, muddy presentation, and lackluster level design, Babylon's Fall also asked for a premium price on top of a full suite of paid microtransactions, which rightly earned it a lot of skepticism and distance from consumers. While Square Enix and PlatinumGames continued to update the game post-launch, including new content and a NieR Automata crossover, it wasn't enough to garner a small, yet dedicated player base. Today, the team posted the following statement to the Hanging Gardens community website, along with the notice that after the service ends on February 27th to take the game offline, you will no longer be able to play the game. All gameplay data on the game servers will be deleted following the termination of service. Greetings Sentinel Force,Thank you very much for playing BABYLON'S FALL. With the desire of delivering an exhilarating online multiplayer action RPG set in an elaborate high fantasy world, we launched the

Babylon’s Fall Season 2 “The Light of Aaru” to begin May 31
Today, Square Enix and PlatinumGames announced that Babylon's Fall's second season "The Light of Aaru" will release on May 31st across all platforms. Concluding season one "The Eternal Ziggurat," the new season will feature new content and features, as well as a graphics refresh. Season 2 will continue through November 29th of this year, far longer than the three month cycle the team originally planned, so that the team can use that extra time to plan and implement further improvements to the game. The main campaign will continue into a new chapter "The Light of Aaru" in which a Kuftaali VIP visits the Sentinel Force Headquarters where your character is stationed. The Sentinels head to the Ziggurat under a new order and are faced with "a new truth." You'll uncover the story of Elysium in the Ziggurat "The Tower of Benben" that stands tall in the desert. More than 100 rewards including assassin-themed vanity attire can be acquired in Season 2, and just like Season 1, the next season's Battle Pass can be purchased at a discounted price depending on the amount of BP earned. This resource is collected by completing daily and weekly objectives. A new Pistol weapon type will be added

Babylon’s Fall team shares graphics updates, teases upcoming content
Babylon's Fall has had it pretty rough since launch. The live-service co-op action RPG developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames was mired in both design and technical issues -- so much in that I couldn't finish the main campaign for our review we posted back in March. The paltry amount of players online for the matchmaking system and the struggle to complete missions poorly balanced for solo play made for a miserable experience. Player counts further dwindled post-launch, despite launching collaboration campaigns with NieR Automata and deploying additional game modes... accessible in the later stages of a hard-to-finish campaign. These factors contributed to the chorus of derision that the game was Square Enix's latest live-service flop, in what's been a charitably tepid start to the company's foray into the genre outside the MMO bracket. In spite of all that, the Babylon's Fall team is pushing ahead with updates and quality of life improvements presumably in hope that it will attract returning players or may intrigue enough outsiders to try a demo. A new interview posted on Square Enix's official blog, PlatinumGames alum and Babylon's Fall co-directors Kenji Saito and Takahisa Sugiyama shared that the game's visuals would be getting an overhaul based on

NieR Automata collaboration in Babylon’s Fall begins
Available now through April 26th, a NieR Automata collaboration event will be held in Babylon's Fall where players can participate in special quests and missions, and earn various campaign items for a limited time. Rewards include cosmetics, such as hairstyles, emotes, and equipment from NieR Automata. To participate, find the mission board and select "NieR Automata Campaign." Gears will be collectible during missions, which can be traded for the themed rewards. Complete the "Amusement Park Rabbit" mission when it is implemented on April 12th and you'll earn an Emil head for your vanity attire. The Garaz shop will offer an Emil-themed Coffin Case. Keep in mind that the Garaz Shop is reserved for premium currency only - and many of the event items are priced at 1500 Garaz which will require a purchase of an $18.99 voucher. So they're quite pricey... The missions themselves will drop relics that may contain several weapon designs from NieR Automata, such as Virtuous Contract, Cruel Oath, Machine Axe (Amusement Park Rabbit), and Pod Rod. The mission list includes: Beachhead I (Recommended Power 20)Beachhead II (Recommended Power 60) *Complete Beachhead IBeachhead III (Recommended Power 120) *Complete Beachhead IIOnce More Into the Breach I (Recommended Power 20) *Complete Beachhead

Babylon’s Fall 1.1.0 adds new weapon type, faction, and ranked event
As part of Babylon's Fall live service structure, new content and features will continue to arrive after launch. After a poor critical reception and low player activity, the team made a statement this week that shared that the game's development is not in jeopardy, and that plans to develop and release additional content in the season-based structure will continue, as well as addressing feedback on the game's faults. Continuing the first season "The Eternal Ziggurat," today's update includes a new story campaign, which will add to the explorable areas in the game. Challenging quests called "Gauntlets" have also been added, as well as a new Great Axe weapon type and Molzamite faction. Here's a summary of the major bits below: New content and features Tower of Babylon: Blockade Zone has been added as part of a new story campaign.Gauntlets have been added as a new type of content.Gauntlets are "extremely challenging" quests that have built-in modifiers that will affect various elements of gameplay. Babylon’s Fall Review
Sometimes, you have to make the best out of a bad situation. Babylon’s Fall doesn’t feel like one of those times. As of this writing, Square Enix and Platinum Games, the publisher and developer of this game respectively, distributed a survey last week. This survey is one of several that will address the fundamental issues that the game has, starting with the graphics, and with that information the team will begin making improvements. Great! However, I’m positive both Square Enix and Platinum Games know the shortcomings quite well.. Currently, the game’s being run through the wringer in its critical and consumer consensus and it’s earned it. Babylon’s Fall was announced in 2018 as the latest joint between the two companies, high off their well-received NieR Automata collaboration. On paper, I think it’s a very attractive pitch: a four-player co-op game utilizing Platinum’s action game prowess married with a looter-style RPG, a unique art style, and an esoteric, mysterious, perhaps even silly story. I definitely think there’s a permutation of ths that works well, but what we got feels like it didn’t proceed well past the planning phase, as I’ll lay out. I can’t call myself a game development expert, so it’s

Babylon’s Fall demo coming to PlayStation platforms on February 25
If you own a PlayStation 4 or a PlayStation 5, you'll be able to get a crack at a free Babylon's Fall demo on February 25th, days before the official release on March 3rd. This demo will include the opening section of the game where you'll be able to participate in both single player and four player cross-play co-op modes and your progress will carry over into the retail version. If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you'll gain early access to the full game on February 28th. Developed by Square Enix and PlatinumGames, Babylon's Fall features an action battle system you can play solo or online co-op with others and features RPG-style progression and customization. You, a Sentinel, are bestowed with preternatural combat abilities and mystical weapons that float around your person in what the game calls a "Gideon Coffin." However, this power comes with a price, and that is a mission to ascend the Tower of Babel to uncover the secrets therein. Post launch, the development team plans to support the game with new game modes, more story content, and additional weapon types for free. The game will also release on PC on March 3rd, 2022.

Babylon’s Fall addresses why it’s using Final Fantasy XIV assets
Developed by PlatinumGames and Square Enix, Babylon's Fall is an upcoming multiplayer action-RPG designed as an ongoing service game. Recently, the third closed beta test was conducted where testers were asked to stress test the servers amongst other features. We summarized the highlights from the previous beta test here. During this test, players noticed that certain gear obtained looked remarkably similar to sets used in Final Fantasy XIV. Amidst criticism that the game was borrowing assets from other titles rather than developing it's own original content, Babylon's Fall producer Yosuke Saito and Final Fantasy XIV producer/director Naoki Yoshida responded in tandem on the Hanging Gardens community website."Ahh, so he’s making a hardcore action-based hack-and-slash game. I’m kind of jealous.” Yoshida thought to himself when Saito unveiled his plans to develop Babylon's Fall. "Preparing all of the gear variations needed for the gameplay is going to be really difficult." Yoshida himself is a noted Diablo fan, with an understanding that creating a wide variety of gear options makes a loot-based game all the more attractive. "Naoki Yoshida was also in attendance and offered his help," Saito shared, "to which I replied, “Yes, please!” From that point the two teams coordinated how the assets
