Chocobo GP extends its first season, adjusts Gil to carry over to next season
Square Enix shared today that Chocobo GP's first season will be extended to May 30th, increasing the amount of time players can collect Cloud and Squall as playable racers by spending Gil, an in-game currency obtained by levelling up a pass and participating in daily and weekly challenges, but can also be pumped with microtransactions -- a source of much derision from fans after the game was sold at a premium price. Additionally, Gil you obtain during Season 1 will carry now carry over to Season 2 instead of being converted into a seasonal score, which, seems like a good idea if a new round of racers and other features obtainable through these currencies are incoming. Full details on Season 2 will be coming soon, but Square Enix states that time attack rankings for all courses will be reset with the new season's debut. You can check out our review of the launch version of the game here. Chocobo GP is now available on Nintendo Switch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPYVpR2Ep_M

Chocobo GP producer outlines plan to fix bugs and adjust microtransactions
When it released last week, Final Fantasy-themed racer Chocobo GP took out all the proverbial gas in the car when it came replete with microtransactions and a freemium style model after asking a premium price. Alongside it launched a "Lite" version of the game free of charge, but more or less has the same features built in, leading some to wonder what the point of the premium version was, since both will require a subscription to Nintendo Online as well. It's a potentially disqualifying blow to what's otherwise a charming and competent racing game and a disappointing start to the series 35th anniversary. This week, producer Hironori Okayama wrote a letter to share what the next steps for the game would look like, including the elephant in the room, as well as future content plans. The most urgent concern, he writes, is to address the bugs causing problems in the current version, where there are errors when purchasing items that arise from differences in the application version - meaning the free 'Lite' version and the premium version. Okayama says if this is happened to you and you've enquired about it with customer service, you'll receive an individual response. Matchmaking has also created situations

Chocobo GP Review
This year marks the 35th anniversary of Final Fantasy and despite all the potential spinoff revivals, the one I never expected to see was a brand new Chocobo Racing. That said, Chocobo GP is a strange title. Granted it’s been years since its predecessor released in 1999, and the constant attempts at its revival punctuated over the years with a sequel intended to come out in 2010 on the Nintendo 3DS. Nearly 23 years later, Chocobo GP has fixed most of the issues found in the original and introduced some great additions to the racing formula. Unlike its predecessor, Chocobo GP boasts a variety of modes and features such as the 64-player mode "Chocobo GP", multiplayer, time attack, custom mode, series mode, and most importantly a story mode along with split-screen support for most everything available. However, while I wasn’t able to try out multiplayer due to it not being available during the review period, most of my contention with this title lies with modern trappings that have wormed their way into a lot of recent multiplayer outings. Given the hot-button nature of that topic, I wanted to talk about that before diving into the rest of the review. Simply put, the game
