Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory Review
Square Enix is no stranger to rhythm games. Over the years they’ve come out with the Theatrhythm series which carried on its back the likes of both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. These unusual entries in their storied franchises were met with a chorus of resounding success and so fans began to wonder: would Kingdom Hearts or other games get the same treatment? Fast forward to the present and the answer is clear, though it’s arriving in a far expanded package. While the Theatrhythm games were created for the Nintendo 3DS’s mobile experience, Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory graces the current generation of home consoles on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and for the first time on Nintendo Switch. Despite this evolution, the game is absolutely a rhythm game to its core. But how does it all work? And how does it fit into the rest of the often complex and increasingly convoluted Kingdom Hearts series. Right from the jump, Melody of Memory opens with visual recap of the series along with a number of tutorials that help you ease into the game. Don’t be fooled: if you’re not used to rhythm games things can be deceptively difficult – the 3D presentation can be

Here’s a look at Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory’s demo
A free demo for Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory went live today on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, giving players a sample of the newest entry in the franchise set to release on November 13th. The demo features six songs to try, as well as a couch co-op mode for two players. If you're on the Switch version, you can check out a local multiplayer mode where up to eight players can compete for the best score. Using the music of the series to create a rhythm game, Melody of Memory blends in staples of Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Much like Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and it's different versions, the type of song you pick will correspond to a different type of stage. Some will involve combat against Heartless enemies, while others be set over key event scenes from the series. What sets it apart is that characters can attack, jump, glide, and use abilities in real time, more closely resembling a Kingdom Hearts experience. These different functions are mapped to buttons in a layout Kingdom Hearts players will find familiar, but if you want a simpler experience, the game offers a "One Button Mode" that will allow you to focus more

Melody of Memory looks to be the ‘Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts’ I’ve wanted
Kingdom Hearts Memory of Melody is a "rhythm action game" set to release this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Featuring 140 songs and four game modes, it looks every bit the "Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts" game many fans have yearned for. The 3DS title Theatrhythm Final Fantasy released back in 2012, and brought together songs from throughout the series as well as characters, and monsters designed by Monster Octopus. Gameplay features three basic modes that recreate Final Fantasy battles, roaming through fields, and key cutscenes, but adapted for a rhythm game. You'd tap, swipe, or hold based on the on-screen directions, then accumulate experience points, levels, abilities, and items very much like a Final Fantasy RPG. It received a follow-up edition in 2014's Curtain Call, an arcade version All-star Carnival, as well as a Dragon Quest series version. Copious DLC for Curtain Call brought in many more tunes, even from the SaGa, Mana, and NieR series, but Kingdom Hearts was notably absent -- it almost seemed a guarantee that a title devoted to Kingdom Hearts would be forthcoming. Melody of Memory is working with the series 3D action battle system. In the trailer below, you can that's been overlaid on
