The DioField Chronicle gets a free update today featuring Waltaquin, Very Hard mode
Last year's strategy RPG The DioField Chronicle has a new, free update available today for all platforms. This update includes five new missions from the perspective of Waltaquin Redditch, a character that joins you early on in the game's story. Waltaquin will have access to a new basement area and a "Mind Map" system that will provide certain choices in the scenario. You'll also have access to a new Magic Tome weapon type as well as Waltaquin's Necromancy skills, which spawn enemies into the battle field that can then be transformed into skeletal dragons. You can also challenge a new Behemoth boss, which will be the most powerful encounter in the game. Other challenges have been added with the implementation of a new "Extra Mode" when starting New Game Plus, where enemies have new adjustments to their levels and parameters. A "Very Hard" difficulty mode is also available. The RPG features a "Real-Time Tactical Battle" system, in which you can move units across the battlefield individually or all at once, and select commands from menus to deploy class-specific abilities or magic and special attacks like summoned beasts. The DioField Chronicle is available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. https://youtu.be/AoaQXXY-PYA

The DioField Chronicle Review
I have a confession to make. I hate it when historical documentaries include scenes with actors and/or junior production staff reenacting important moments. It undercuts the two key reasons I’m watching — to learn stuff and to pretend I’m smart whilst doing so. Plus, come on, I mean, they look like cosplayers at the Renaissance Faire. Nothing against that, but again, who are you trying to impress here?  The DioField Chronicle is kind of like a historical documentary peppered with cosplaying Renne Faire volunteers. Also, there’s gameplay. We’ll talk about the gameplay, don’t worry. Gameplay is important in video games; it’s right there in the name. But first, indulge me further on this rant, won’t you? Or just skip ahead, but I promise, this is relevant. I think. There is a captivating world here. You can read about it in the library. Characters discuss it, occasionally at length. Seriously, it’s a rock-solid foundation. Good lore. Nothing especially original, perhaps, but it gels, and I had a great time flipping through the progressively larger in-game codex.  "The future may seem bleak, but at least the guy who compares our game to turkey was too slow in writing this to show up on Metacritic." Troublingly, the

A look at The DioField Chronicle demo
This past week, Square Enix released a demo version of its upcoming simulation RPG The DioField Chronicle on Steam, PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and the Nintendo eShop. Elapsing over the game's first several hours, the demo includes around eight combat missions. Your progress can be saved and carried over into the full retail game. The game is built by a team of “skilled and experienced” developers including character designs by Taiki (Lord of Vermilion III, IV), concept art by Isamu Kamikokuryo (Final Fantasy X, XII, XIII, XV) and composed by Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell of Game of Thrones fame. Diving in, DioField takes place in the embattled DioField Island, rife with factional conflicts between nobles, and a greater invasion looming from an Empire situated on the continent vying to power it's magic technology with the island's abundant Jade. The setting isn't entirely dissimilar from a World War II analogue, but with all the fantastical trappings of Final Fantasy Tactics. Think swords and sorcery, magic summoned beasts, enemies rising from the dead, and so on. You assume the role of Andrias, a young man skilled in subterfuge and weilds daggers in combat. Alongside him is Fredret, a mounted unit that has higher mobility
