Final Fantasy XIV details 5.1 content updates, next Live Letter out October 18

Arriving late this month, the first major content patch following July’s Shadowbringers expansion is called ‘Vows of Virtue, Deeds of Cruelty,’ a nod to one of it’s major tentpoles: an alliance raid collaboration based on NieR Automata.

Today we get a closer look at the new content, which includes the continuation of the main scenario after it’s previous conclusion in Shadowbringers. From the official patch website, and, spoilers ahead:

Prefacing the story, Square Enix writes: “Hades is no more, and darkness at last returns the mantle of night. But victory does not come without consequence. How will the Scions mend the wounds of this broken world? What nefarious forces would dare rend them anew?”

A new level 80 dungeon called The Grand Cosmos will be available by playing through the main scenario update, and will be compatible with the Trust system. Below, you can also glimpse the gear set you can collect within:

“Long ago, on the far shore of the Source, a great palace was built by the elves–the Grand Cosmos, an edifice of such magnitude it was said to inspire envy in both the heavens for which it was named and the flowers that pervade its boundless gardens. As with so many wonders of the world that once was, its radiance quickly faded in the wake of the Flood, its halls falling silent, the throne sitting empty. That is, until the palace was given new purpose when a mage claimed it as their sanctuary, their only company being solace, solitude, and the legion of familiars barring entrance to any foolish enough to seek an audience.”

Patch 5.1 will also introduce new systems to the game including New Game Plus. This feature will allow you to redo parts of the main scenario quest at your current level – so you can participate the quests, cutscenes, dialogue, and story battles that the Unending Journey doesn’t cover.

From the New Game Plus menu, you’ll be able to select chapters from the Heavensward and Stormblood expansions. You’ll have to wait a bit longer for A Realm Reborn content, as the team has plans to revisit and trim some of the quest chains for a better experience.

Fellowships are a new social feature that will allow you to invite and communicate with up to 1000 players that share your common interests and goals that you may have done previously through the linkshell system.

You won’t have to wait too much longer for more information on Patch 5.1, a new Letter from the Producer Live broadcast will air Friday, October 18th, that will further detail the upcoming content.
