Final Fantasy VII Rebirth developer comments continue, promise more information soon
Over the past few days Square Enix has continued with brief developer comments from the staff of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 this Winter. While we're still waiting for the next big information drop, these snippets do provide a bit of insight on the game's current status and what fans can come to expect when it launches in the coming months. While the team is currently working to nail down a release date and FFVII Rebirth will have a high degree of freedom through exploration, we learned from scenario writer Kazushige Nojima that there will be a "chain of narrative developments that lie at the very heart of the FFVII story while discovering each character's destiny." Those who didn't play the original Final Fantasy VII Remake need not worry, however, as co-director Motomu Toriyama notes Square Enix has made preparations for fans to fully enjoy Rebirth. While Rebirth is being propped up as a continuing of Remake, there is always the question of if the battle system will be changed. According to battle director Teruki Endo, "new comrades will join you in battle and you can cooperate with other party members in closer ways than

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s world has a “high degree of freedom with myriad stories”
From the outset Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has a big challenge: how to depict the world of Final Fantasy VII that lies outside Midgar. For players that have only played Final Fantasy VII Remake, they might be curious to find what's out there in the rest of the world as Cloud and company pursue Sephiroth. Well, it seems that fans of the original probably have the same amount of questions. In the original game, players proceed across a world map in a linear fashion, from story beat to story beat, aside from the occasional distraction. Yes, you can roam around "chunks" the early sections of world map access and engage in battles to your heart's content, but by and large you're moving from A to B to C. In a new tweet from the development team, they share that you will "journey across a wide and multi-faceted world with a high degree of freedom, experiencing a myriad of different stories." Naturally, you may be curious about what exactly a 'high degree of freedom' entails with the original game's context in mind, but the rest really does line up neatly with the rest of the early parts of FFVII outside of Midgar. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth development progresses smoothly as team works to nail down release date
While Final Fantasy XVI takes center stage this month, there is another major Final Fantasy title planned for the current fiscal year: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. It's been quite some time since we heard about the in-development second part of the three part Remake project, but that silence has been somewhat broken today. In a brief message posted on the game's official Twitter page, producer Yoshinori Kitase gave a quick update on the development progress. "Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan," says Kitase. "We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game." So there you have it - things are going well for Rebirth and if all holds true the Winter release window will remain in place. Those concerned about Rebirth's content need not worry either - previously the development team mentioned that there will be a slight change in the order of locations you'll visit throughout the story due to the nature of the project releasing as a trilogy, but none of the locations from the original FFVII have been removed. Additionally, the reveal trailer for Rebirth was only a teaser so the next time we see the game it'll be much bigger and exciting. Final

Square Enix shares New Year 2023 developer messages, Kitase hints unannounced project
The year 2022 has come to a close, and the teams at Square Enix have some year-end messages to share. 2023 is already looking to be an eventful one, with Final Fantasy XIV's new patch Gods Revel, Lands Tremble kicking things off on January 10. Not long after, Forspoken will release on PC and PlayStation 5 on January 24th, marking the team's debut title as Luminous Productions after developing Final Fantasy XV. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line compiles an absolutely massive list of Final Fantasy music into a rhythm game for PlayStation 4 and Switch, and is due out on February 16th. Octopath Traveler II follows up shortly after on February 24th, a Switch exclusive title that features the same style as the first but with new protagonists and a new world to explore. Into the Summer season, Final Fantasy XVI will launch on PlayStation 5, and new information about the game will pick up the pace as we enter the final six months before release. Development on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is also accelerating, says its producer Yoshinori Kitase, and is scheduled for a Winter release — which means we could see it in early 2024. The Kingdom Hearts series will start

Kitase and Nomura talk Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the fast pace of the Remake project
A wave of interviews centered on various Final Fantasy VII projects are making the rounds today including some new insight on the recently announced Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part in the three part Final Fantasy VII Remake project. Of note, there's a lot of talk on the game's "fast pace" development, which is quite a feat for a high-profile large-scale HD game such as this. Speaking with 4Gamer and translated by Genki, producer Yoshinori Kitase tells that the Remake project was always intended to be developed in installments. Keeping the core team intact, the Remake team started work on FFVII Rebirth, which allowed development to progress very quickly. This is different from past games in the series, which would usually shed their teams once a game was completed - a philosophy that will hold true for the third installment when it enters full scale development in the future. "Currently, of course, we are developing FFVII Rebirth, but we have already started working on things such as plot and script for the third game," says creative director Tetsuya Nomura. "Even though we're calling it a trilogy, it feels like we've been making it continuously without pause." Further information comes from

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches Winter 2023-2024 on PlayStation 5
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be the second title in a trilogy of games dubbed the Final Fantasy VII remake project. The follow-up to 2020's Final Fantasy VII Remake, Rebirth will continue "the Unknown Journey" proclaimed in the first game's credits. It will release in Winter 2023/2024 for PlayStation 5; no other platforms have been revealed at this time. In the "First Look" trailer below, we see Cloud and Sephiroth travelling through the wilderness presumably close to Nibelheim, Cloud's hometown. In the narration, we hear several characters recounting the the events of the original 1997 title a bit... differently. Official statements from the team have also been shared: Tetsuya Nomura (Creative Director) "As revealed on the broadcast, there are currently four Final Fantasy VII projects being developed in parallel. Although each of the four titles plays a different role, they are all connected through the high-quality depictions of Final Fantasy VII's world and characters. As someone who was involved with the development of each and everyone of the original titles, I deeply understand the vision and thoughts behind each project, and I am actively involved in the development process for all four titles. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy
