New voice actors revealed for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

This weekend, Final Fantasy XIV will be enjoying some special promotion courtesy of Nico Nico Chokaigi 2 in Japan.

A Miqo’te style Naoki Yoshida and his team took the stage at the event this morning to share the latest details on the game – complete with his entourage of fellow official cosplayers.

Phase 3 of the beta test – which will begin in June – will see the addition of PS3 players as well as PC players along with a wealth of new content and zones for fans to enjoy. Square Enix is working closely with Sony to prepare for both the beta launch, and eventual simultaneous release on both platforms this summer. FFXIV’s open beta will commence as of Phase 4 and will include the long sought after Player versus Player content. All PvP points earned during this phase will be reset for the final release out of fairness to other users.

Two new faces were also added to the Japanese voice cast at the event. Joining the likes of Akio Otsuka will be Yuuichi Nakamura (Cid Raines in FFXIII and Trey in FF Type-0) as the voice of Thancred – as well as Shin’nosuke Tachibana (Kristoph in Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume) as an all-new character named Alfino. Voice acting has been underway for a new trailer as well – the likes of which will see a launch just ahead of E3 in the third week of May.

As reported in 2011, the team is hard at work on a smartphone application where players will be able to check their online status as well as access a database full of pertinent information on the game.

Yoshida also confirmed that an updated soundtrack is in the works and will include music from both Nobuo Uematsu and Masayoshi Soken. In addition, the marketing team will be preparing commercials for Japan, Europe and North America.

Day 2 of the Final Fantasy XIV presentation will commence tonight with a panel between Yoshida and 2ch founder Hiroyuki Nishimura. Stay tuned.
