Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier shuts down January 11, 2023

Mobile battle royale Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier is set to close its doors on January 11, 2023, Square Enix announced today. The game will have run for just over a year, having originally launched worldwide on November 17, 2021, when it closes that day at 2:00AM EST.

“Despite all our efforts to bring you regular updates with fresh and exciting content, we haven’t been able to deliver the experience that we were hoping to, and that you all deserve, so we have made the extremely tough decision to end service,” says a notice on the official website. Whilst there is less than three months until the service ends, the development team does promise to continue to make updates during this time for those looking to play until the very end.

Alongside this announcement, Square Enix removed the ability to purchase Shinra Credits with real currency. Those with existing credits can still spend them before the game closes in January.

Additionally, a Halloween event is on between now and November 1. Check out the teaser for it below.
