Square Enix announced the return of the Dragon Quest Monsters series with Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince – launching worldwide for Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023. This version of the monster-recruiting adventure series features Psaro, the demon prince whose curse prevents him from harming monsters. Because of this, he must become a Monster Wrangler whose job it is to recruit and fight alongside monsters throughout the world of Nadiria.

One of the unique aspects of the game world is the regular cycling seasons, which not only change the landscape but also opens new areas and different monsters specific to each season. The player’s toolkit is boosted by the newly evolved synthesis system which allows players to create completely new monsters by combining those already on their roster. Players can experiment and eventually unlock over 500 monsters, including franchise mainstays, dark lords, and completely new creatures. Once players have assembled their desired roster, they can take their teams of powerful monsters online, to battle against other Monster Wranglers around the world.
