Tokyo RPG Factory disbanded, absorbed back into Square Enix

Tokyo RPG Factory, a subsidiary of Square Enix, has been disbanded and reabsorbed into the company, according to a report by Gamebiz.jp. This comes nearly 10 years after its establishment in 2014.

The studio was responsible for a trilogy of RPGs starting with 2016’s I Am Setsuna, a top-down turn-based RPG in the vein of Chrono Trigger set in a world locked in an endless winter.

2017’s Lost Sphear continued this format but with a few twists, such as the ability to move and position characters and suit up into mechanized units for powerful attacks.

2019’s Oninaki was an action RPG looter, where the main character can shift between the realm of the living and dead with a button press.

I Am Setsuna (2016)

Lost Sphear (2017)

Oninaki (2019)
