Final Fantasy XVI DLC "The Rising Tide" launches April 18

The next round of Final Fantasy XVI now has a date, just announced during a special PAX East panel where game producer Naoki Yoshida shared a new look at “The Rising Tide” featuring Leviathan. It’s due to drop on April 18, and will be available individually, or in the discounted Expansion Pass.

This upcoming DLC takes place before the ending of the main game, and includes more than just the wayward Eikon.

The Rising Tide will open up with an unmarked letter delivered to the hideaway with a curious request – the Dominant of Leviathan needs to be rescued and Clive and friends will have to journey to the new location of Mysidia to uncover its tragic history.

While the Story Focused Mode will see a level cap raised to 60, Final Fantasy Mode in New Game+ will go up to 110. Additionally, new Eikonic abilities will be available to Clive from Leviathan the Lost. This new ability set will allow you to down enemies both near and far, along with a new Eikon Feat called Serpent’s Cry – allowing Clive to summon a sea serpent that can deal precision strikes to distant enemies. Leviathan won’t be the only power Clive discovers on his journey, however.

The Rising Tide will also feature new side stories where he’ll learn more about the people of Mysidia and new enemies. The tonberry can be found in the Aire of Hours, which is a new stage. And of course, Clive will have to battle Levithan itself.

A new mode will be unlocked after completion of the DLC and main scenario. Players can take on a virtual underworld and eliminate waves of foes at Kairos Gate. He’ll fight through 20 stages–each growing more difficult than the last. Maximize battle performance to earn points and find new materials and weapons to upgrade for Clive, and even check out the leaderboard.

Fans who purchase The Rising Tide or the Expansion Pass will receive special bonus items, including:

  • A reimagined version of the “Curtana,” the signature weapon used by the Warrior of Light in Final Fantasy XIV, and
  • “Torn from the Heavens” and “Through the Maelstrom” Orchestrion Rolls, to be played as background music in the hideaway!

A Free Update (Ver. 1.30) will also be available for everyone on April 18. This downloadable update will add quality-of-life improvements for the full game, including:

  • Return to a quest giver immediately with the new “Quick Complete” function
  • Icon updates for important character quests
  • A new Skill Set feature, which allows players to save up to five unique Feat and Ability sets
  • Abilities and Accessories adjusted for easier use
  • New “Custom” controller type allows for freely customizable button layouts
  • Tone correction, screen effects, and more added to Photo Mode
  • Numerous new orchestrion rolls added

Final Fantasy XVI is now available for PlayStation 5. A PC version is currently in development.
