Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster for PS4 dated, supports cross saves and original soundtrack options By Erren Van Duine on March 2, 2015 at 10:17 PM

Final Fantasy X|X-2 returns to the PlayStation 4 this May, Square Enix announced today. Set to arrive in North America on May 12 and in Japan on May 14th, fans who order this latest version of the game will be treated to system-exclusive features and a special pre-order bonus item: an exclusive calendar featuring artwork by the series artist, Yoshitaka Amano, available at participating retailers and the Square Enix Online Store.

The PS4 port features a couple new additions, including the ability to transfer saved between versions and an option to toggle music between the original PS2 score and the updated remastered version. Additionally, those who pre-order will receive an exclusive Amano-themed desktop calendar in a Limited Edition. The PS4 specific features include:

  • Cross-Save Functionality – Players can transfer their save and continue their progress across the PlayStation 4 system, PlayStation 3 system, and the PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system. (PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions sold separately.)
  • Ability to Switch Between Original and Remastered Soundtrack – Play Final Fantasy X with the beautifully remastered soundtrack or, new to the PlayStation 4 system version, switch back to the original classic tracks.
  • Remote play – Supported for the PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment system.

“Cross Save Functionality” This is the only way I would buy it. Although that’s kind of a odd pre-order bonus imo lol

  • HalfLucan

Eh, i bought the PS3 one in december but the Master Chief collection uniates all over this… This is port of the PS2 games, the MCC is actually a remake

  • Adrian

    This is bait.

I totally would get the MCC if online multiplayer worked at all…

  • HalfLucan

Yeah, its a damn shame they messed that up. That being said tho, Halo has one of the best stories to date and the new cut scenes look amazing. MS had the foresight to keep all their data, whereas Square Enix has mentioned that they used to throw theirs out.

I think for the recent remasters, they had to use and modify the assets on the retail disk hence this looking pretty ordinary. But its FF and it too has one of the best stories so despite the “i can upscale this shit myself” port, it will still sell…

  • Daniel Masterson

welp looks like another buy for me!

We get to change to the original soundtrack….. WE FINALLY GET TO HAVE THAT OPTION??? YESSSSSS! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE VITA & PS3 VERSION! Also, it looks like there’s some notable visual improvements as well. You may take my money once more SE.

  • Wazi the pa

Hooooooooly. I did not expect any visual improvements (some texture editing I did though) at all for the port. I only expected for additional features. I’m more than satisfied to just have the original soundtrack option already.

  • Dimitri Theodosakis

Which Retails getting Limited Edition aka Pre Order Edition

  • Xervath

    ‘Original soundtrack’.
Good! My main gripe with the remastered version is that, in my opinion, they managed to butcher most – if not all – of the OST in this version. (the only two tracks I can appreciate are ‘via purifico’ – which really is just ripped directly from the Piano collections, and ‘To the end of the abyss’ – the original of which happens to be one of my all-time favorite FF tracks…so yeah)

Cross-save is a welcome feature as well. Just might pick this up now (honestly, prepping for those dark Aeons is ever so tedious =_____=; )

  • Xervath

Wow that is actually quite a boost there.
Perhaps this was their intention. They mentioned – when this version launched on PS3 – that there “wasn’t as much attention spent on X-2, just on X”.
Maybe with the PS4-version they “finished” both versions.

  • So no European release date yet?

  • Noctis

To all roundbased fans of FF. Here is your chance to buy for the third time a game of FFX, go and play this for the next generation. If ya don`t like where it is going now with FFXV

  • Krijn van Alten

    No Europe?

  • Noctis

Who else thinks that Tidus had a better face in the original game?

  • Billy Jackson

Who else is looking forward to collecting this game on everything they can?

  • Billy Jackson
  • stevenm281

I’m the total opposite, I enjoy a lot more the remastered soundtrack than the original.

  • Xervath

That’s great (no sarcasm) it’s good to know that there are people (or at least one) out there that do enjoy the remastered OST.
I, however, am less pleased with it.

  • Naw. Not for me.I got rid of my ps2 version of it and got the ps3 version but that’s enough. I’m sticking to new games.

  • Daniel Masterson

Looks like ill be doing the ol’ triple dip!

  • Daniel Masterson

uh ya me right here! I have the PS3 and Vita Version and my original versions on PS2. This next one will go nicely in my collection.

  • alexis

I think having this game twice is enough, lmao

  • LuxAlike

I actually need a calendar for my room, so yeah. Selling point. 😮

  • Wazi the pa

The PS4 port will have a lot more value if there would be an option for a VA change….. That’d be amazing….

  • I think I’m going to stick with the PS3 version, lol. I don’t feel like collecting shit all over again, you know? But if you’ve skipped the first remaster and have a PS4, definitely pick this up.

  • Nick Greeley

FFX is the new FFIV lol

  • Noctis

You don`t get it, I literally mean Tidus face he sems like he went into a plastic surgery.

    Check this out:

    or this:

    and this:

They screwed his face, I don`t mean the graphics because they are good

  • Wazi the pa

That Tidus HD character was later changed again. Have a look at current walkthroughs or latest trailers. Old trailers & screenshots were a WIP.

  • Jesus Christ

Wow, back in the day when this game came out. I just was immersed with the CG and how “real” it look. but, NOW, just looking at that image above. It looks fake. :/

PS4 CG ruined it for me.

  • Nick Greeley

If any European fans would prefer the calendar, I’ll gladly trade for the steelbook, and pay for shipping both ways :p

  • Nick Greeley

In all honesty, I’m probably going to get this on PSN. The PS3 disc was full of dialogue delays and slowdowns.

  • Nick Greeley

They revised his face quite a bit after those screens were released. His hair is totally different.

  • Catoblepas

Dat desktop calendar gimmick doe. Anything to sell the limited edition, right? iDon’t care how. iWant it now! Now might be time to part with some pretty pennies. CURSE YOU SQUARE ENIX!

  • April

so are we getting Japanese voice with English subtitle as well???

  • He has a smaller and chubby face. Like he looks like a damn baby/child. His face doesn’t need to match his personality Square. He looked cool and determined before. Now he looks like he is void of all emotion besides a stiff smile.

  • Noctis

Just checked newer trailers and no….he still has a plastic face now….i will stick withe ps2 Version

  • WaterFaster2012

    original soundtrack all day, everyday!

  • Rémy

I thought exactly the same thing, but they won’t get any money from me again. They take us for fools PS2 / PS3 / PSVITA and now PS4.. I get so mad when I’ve learnt that they add “Original Soundtrack” only for PS4..

  • Rentyn Gohan Cooper

skip cutscene option on ffx???? 🙂

gone through the game over 200 times and tired of watching half the cutscenes lol

  • Rentyn Gohan Cooper

this will be my 7th copy lol
