With the arrival of Patch 3.21 today, adventurers in Final Fantasy XIV will have access to a new PvP mode called The Feast. It’s our return trip to the Wolves’ Den, which was first introduced December 2013’s Patch 2.1 A Realm Awoken.
Unlike The Fold (which is the new name for the previous Wolves’ Den mode), The Feast revolves around the acquisition of medals by defeating your enemies in combat. If your team reaches a certain count of medals or has the most when time’s up, congratulations: you win. A rating system with tiers will allow individual players to compete against each other for top wolf, including bragging rights and some exclusive gear when the official season kicks off down the road. No rewards will go out during the pre-season, so practice up!
Recently demonstrated by Final Fantasy XIV director/producer Naoki Yoshida in this video, The Fold comes with several unique features. Similar to Frontlines, you’ll be able use the Adrenaline Rush gauge (in place of the Limit Break gauge) to execute PvP-geared power moves. Supply boxes will also appear in 8-vs-8 arenas. When opened, they’ll bestow various effects – such as restoring HP, increasing your damage output, reducing damage taken, or filling the Adrenaline gauge.
Culling Time will kick in when you or another player hasn’t been KO’d for a considerable amount of time. They’ll start to take increased damage from enemy attacks until their streak has ended. Worry not newbies, the amount of coins that can be obtained from KO’ing the same player multiple times will sharply decrease.
Using these new features to your advantage is the key to victory in The Feast.
The pre-season begins today and will end in Patch 3.25 where the official PvP season kicks off.
You can kick off the quest by speaking to Alys in Mor Dhona (X:21.7 Y:8.6) to undertake “A Seat at the Feast”. You must first complete the “A Pup No Longer” quest.
Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward is now avilable for Windows PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Mac. The most recent major content patch The Gears of Change (3.2) arrived on February 23rd 2016.
