The anime adaptation of The World Ends with You will air worldwide in 2021. Revealed on Anime Expo Lite, the production will include a blend of 2D and 3DCG styles and include new music composed by Takeharu Ishimoto. The Japanese voice cast from the original game have returned to their roles in the anime.
The video game first released on Nintendo DS in 2007 and saw a smartphone adaptation -Solo Remix- and Switch adaptation -Final Remix- in recent years. The anime will follow the game’s story but with changes to adapt it for an episodic nature, as well as new elements.
“Neku awakens in the middle of Shibuya’s Scramble Crossing with no memory of how he got there. Little does he know he’s been transported to an alternate plane of existence known as the Underground (UG). Now an unwilling participant in the mysterious “Reaper’s Game,” Neku must partner up with a girl named Shiki in order to survive.
