Final Fantasy XIV 'Dad of Light' blogger Maidy has passed away

In an update from the official Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light twitter account, the blogger that inspired the TV and film adaptation has passed away. Known as Maidy to the game’s community, they wrote about introducing their father to Final Fantasy XIV in an attempt to strengthen their distant relationship. Unbeknownst to the “Dad of Light,” Maidy coached their father anonymously as he progressed through the game.

Their story touched the Final Fantasy XIV and gaming community across the globe, and as it gained more and more attention, MBS & Netflix picked up an adaptation for a short TV series entitled 2017 ‘Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light’ starring Yudai Chiba and Ren Osugi, who tragically passed away in 2018. A film adaptation was produced in 2019 starring Kentaro Sakaguchi and Koutarou Yoshida.

Update: Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida has shared a statement on Maidy’s passing on The Lodestone, which you can read here.
