Final Fantasy VII Remake's second part to be directed by Naoki Hamaguchi

The second entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series will be helmed by the first game’s co-director, Naoki Hamaguchi, confirmed by Tetsuya Nomura in an interview published with Famitsu today. While Nomura himself will stay on as a creative director for both Remake and other Final Fantasy VII related titles, he says his role on the main project won’t be changing significantly from what it was.

“Today, we announced three Final Fantasy VII titles, but as I mentioned earlier, I’m personally working on more projects now than ever before,” Nomura told Famitsu. “Since we were able to solidify the base gameplay in the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake and are able to see what we need to improve upon in the future, Naoki Hamaguchi will be entrusted as the director on the next part, while I’ll be involved as the creative director on all things Final Fantasy VII, including Remake and mobile titles. My basic involvement in the work won’t significantly change, so please give me your continued support.”

This news comes hot on the heels of several announcements including Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade for PlayStation 5. According to Nomura, the name ‘Intergrade’ came about as a throwback to Final Fantasy VII International as well as the meaning of ‘intergrade’ to indicate it takes place between the original Final Fantasy VII Remake and the next part while also referring to the next generation transition.

The game is set to launch worldwide on June 10, 2021.
