Final Fantasy XIV announced for PlayStation 5, open beta starts April 13

Final Fantasy XIV is officially making its way to PlayStation 5, Square Enix announced today.

The native PS5 release will come packed with a host of new features for the console version including 4K resolution support, faster loading times and a significantly improved frame rate.

The game will launch with two modes: 4K mode will feature 4K resolution and a second “Full HD 2K” mode will also be available. Per producer/director Naoki Yoshida, Ccntinued support for the PS5 version is planned as well similar to how the PS4 release was handled.

Additionally, those who already own a PlayStation 4 license for the game will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost.

Fans can check out an open beta for the PS5 version on April 13, 2021 – which is also the same day Patch 5.5 is scheduled to launch. More information on the open beta will be revealed at a later date but for now check out the game running on PS5 hardware below.
