Square Enix announces three new titles coming to mobile devices

Three brand-new mobile titles were announced today by Square Enix during the Presents livestream event. The Just Cause series is getting its very own Android and iOS spinoff game that will feature iconic characters from past games, while the Hitman mobile series continues with another Sniper-focused installment. Additionally, Square Enix Montréal is collaborating with Taito on a new Space Invaders game that will feature augmented reality (AR) gameplay that will allow users to save the world from, well, invaders!

You can find all the trailers showcased in the livestream event, and more, below.

Just Cause Mobile

Just Cause Mobile will be a top-down action shooter game that will feature fully voiced in-game cutscenes, as well as single-player and multiplayer modes. Players will be able to design their own character and join Firebrand, a special division within the covert organization known as “The Agency.”

Day one as a new Firebrand recruit begins with the base under attack by Darkwater, a group formed of ex-Black Hand members. After barely making it out alive, Carmen Padrón, leader of the Firebrand team, gives the order to investigate Darkwater to take them out, all the while tracking down allies, like her former agency partner Rico Rodriguez, for help.

Players will come across well-known characters from the Just Cause series throughout the campaign, who will provide important information and assist you on missions. The campaign spans across three open-world locations around the globe, and players can track down Darkwater agents and take them out using different weapons, vehicles and gadgets.

Just Cause Mobile will be available for free on Android and iOS, and is planned to release later this year.

Project Hitman Sniper Assassins

Square Enix Montréal, the studio behind Lara Croft GO, Hitman GO, Hitman Sniper and Deus Ex GO revealed their next mobile game with a working title: Project Hitman Sniper Assassins. This game will feature a new original Hitman story with playable assassins and new gameplay features.

“Praised as one of the best mobile games available upon its release, Hitman Sniper raised the bar for player expectations of mobile sniper games,” said Dominic Allaire, executive producer at Square Enix Montréal. “Project Hitman Sniper Assassins will be an evolutionary leap forward for the genre, and we can’t wait for players to share our excitement when they get their hands on it in the coming months.”

“2021 will be one of the best years to be a fan of the Hitman franchise,” said Fahad Khan, lead game designer at Square Enix Montréal. “Creativity in approach and tactics are hallmarks of the game’s universe. We’ve doubled down on what fans loved and are delivering an experience that gives players even more freedom to truly embody a Hitman Sniper.”

More information on Hitman Sniper Assassins is planned to be revealed at a later date.

Space Invaders

Space Invaders returns in a new collaborative vision between Square Enix Montréal and Taito. This game will offer a brand new way to experience this classic title by allowing players to defend the world against an invasion through the power of AR technology and mobile devices.

“We are extremely inspired by our collaboration with Taito to re-imagine the Space Invaders franchise in a contemporary way while shaping it to our ambitious vision of what it can be on mobile,” said Patrick Naud, Head of Studio of Square Enix Montréal. “At Square Enix Montréal we are huge fans of the franchise and the team has risen to the challenge of showing how all-new technology can breathe fresh energy into a game as timeless as Space Invaders.”

“Collaborating with Square Enix Montréal on their bold vision for Space Invaders has been an incredible endeavor,” said Tetsu Yamada, President and Representative Director, Taito Corporation. “As fans of our classic series, they are treating Space Invaders with the utmost care and respect. We are thrilled that the game is coming out with new technology and fresh taste and will further expand the universe of the Space Invaders franchise.”

No further information or release window was given, but players interested can register on the official website for Space Invaders to receive updates as they happen. Space Invaders will be released on Andoid and iOS devices.
