Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster set to release on September 8

Final Fantasy IV is he latest in Square Enix’s “Pixel Remaster” series that spans the franchises first six numbered entries. Releasing on Steam, iOS, and Android on September 8, this version features newly-drawn 2D sprites, a remastered soundtrack that can be listened to in a music player, a bestiary accessible from the title menu, and an art gallery. Gameplay additions include an auto-battle function and the ability to save anywhere outside of battle.

Set in a fantasy world where nations possess great and powerful crystals, the kingdom of Baron sends the dark knight Cecil to plunder the one belonging to the Mysidians – it is this task that sets Cecil upon a journey of redemption and self-discovery. Final Fantasy IV is the first game in the series to use the Active Time Battle combat system, in which party members and enemies take turns according to a timer rather than issuing commands all at once, lending a dynamic rhythm to encounters.

Previous entries in the Pixel Remaster series feature the same updates as this title, but do not include select content and features from previous remasters, as we shared in our review of the first three titles. While not a definitive package that houses every version’s content, they’re enjoyable all the same.

Pre-order incentives through Steam include two wallpapers and three music tracks from the game, as well as a 20% discount. A discount is also available by purchasing Final Fantasy I through VI as a bundle through Steam.
