'Tactics Ogre: Reborn' trademark has been filed in Japan

Via a report from Gematsu, Square Enix filed a trademark for ‘Tactics Ogre: Reborn’, what seems to be a new project in the long-running Ogre Battle / Tactics Ogre strategy RPG series developed by Quest, who later joined Square Enix to develop Final Fantasy Tactics.

Rumblings of a new Tactics Ogre remaster surfaced last year with an alleged leak from Nvidia’s GeForce Now database, with several Square Enix titles supposedly in development. One of which, a Chrono Cross remaster, has since been announced and released. Also, a recent playtest survey was sent by Square Enix’s Eidos Montreal studio asking what games in the Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics series they had played.

The latest title in the series, a “re-imagining” of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together as creator Yasumi Matsuno put it, released on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. It featured new systems like the Chariot, which allowed players to turn back time in battle with certain restrictions, and a World system that would let you navigate down different paths were key choices diverge the plot. Since then, however, things have been quiet.

While “Reborn” doesn’t definitively point at a new title or a remaster, it looks like the series could have it’s first new title in 12 years.
