Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker delayed to December 7; launch trailer previewed

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has been delayed two weeks, producer/director Naoki Yoshida revealed today with a heart-felt apology during the latest Letter from the Producer Live. The expansion will now launch on December 7 with early access beginning on December 3.

As Endwalker is the largest expansion to date, the content is moving according to plan. This is a saga that has been in development for 11 years, and this is the last chapter of the Hydaelyn/Zodiark saga. The team wants to tie up all the loose ends and Yoshida wanted to examine a lot of subtleties with this regard.

These examinations ate into the master quality assurance time, which necessitated the two-week delay – a decision made last Friday. It was a matter of a few business days in the schedule, but with concerns about congestion they wanted to take time with QA as that is intertwined with how smooth the launch will happen. Yoshida says that being producer and director that he’d be able to deal and move on, but with Endwalker being the finale, he said he didn’t want to compromise and made the choice to delay.

While it’s understandable people may have taken time off to prepare for this, they wanted to prioritize quality and so Yoshida sincerely apologizes for this situation.

To help ease this news, the game’s launch trailer has been released featuring a load of probably spoilers. If you’re wanting to go in fresh, make to to avoid the link below.
