At Square Enix’s Dragon Quest 35th Anniversary presentation last year, a new spinoff title Dragon Quest Treasures was revealed to be in development.
Featuring two characters from 2017’s Dragon Quest XI, younger versions of siblings Erik and Mia, the game appeared to be rebuilt from the concept of a now-cancelled Dragon Quest Monsters entry. Described as a “RPG treasure hunting adventure,” the game is actually a prequel telling a tale before the events of the series’ eleventh numbered entry.
Today, as part of the 36th Anniversary announcements, a teaser trailer was revealed stating more information will come next month. While we didn’t get an update on platforms, we know from last year that Square Enix is planning simultaneous worldwide launch.
Regarding Dragon Quest XII, series creator Yuji Horii stated that they are “working hard on building” then game, but there will be “plenty more Dragon Quest to tide you over until it’s finished.” This includes the just-announced port of Dragon Quest Builders to mobile platforms.
