Foamstars is a new online shooter from Square Enix, and features characters who use foam-based weapons to spray foam at each other and on the arena itself. The foam can be layered to make vantage points or cover, and by "foaming up" another character and subsequently surfing over foam and into them, you can knock enemies out of play. This coming weekend (September 29th through October 1st) an open beta will be held on PlayStation 5 where two gameplay modes will be available: Smash the Star and Happy Bath Survival, each bringing a twist on how players operate within a team. Square Enix has also given us a rundown of all the characters that include their unique weapons and skills, as well as their bubble beastie friends. There will be eight characters to choose from in the open beta. Foamstars is currently announced for an early 2024 release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Foamstars has announced that it will conduct an open beta phase between September 29th and October 1st on PlayStation 5. The beta phase will include 8 characters and 2 modes to try out. The first is called "Smash the Star" where knocking out seven enemy players, the best player on the opposing team will be designated the "Star Player." If you knock out the Star Player, you win, so protecting your team's Star Player will also be important. The second is "Happy Bath Survival" where two players are in the arena and two other players are outside the arena. The battle continues until one team's two combatants are knocked out. Players out of the arena can support allies and obstruct the other team and it is conducted in three rounds. The team that gets two wins are the victors. The game is a four-on-four online shooter where players will use foam in combat in unexpected ways. You can surf on foam to gain speed, build terrain made from foam, and even create cover or vantage points with it. Square Enix revealed a new IP during Sony's PlayStation Showcase today. Titled Foamstars, this new game takes four-on-four online shooting in a colorful direction. In development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, foam is the ultimate resource to be used in multiple ways. Players can create slippery surfaces to surf around the arena at high speed; to build terrain, helping players defend from enemy attacks or creating high vantage points to take out opponents; and finally, to foam up the opposition and win the match.
