Dragon Quest Tact will end service on February 29, 2024, according to an announcement from Square Enix today. Developed with Aiming Inc., the gacha-style tactical RPG features the monsters of the Dragon Quest series that can be recruited into a party and battled a turn-based fashion with tactical grid-based combat. Released on smartphones globally in 2021, the game only recently released its Version 4.0 update and an in-game collaboration with Dragon Quest V.
Square Enix has halted the sale of in-game currency effective today, as well as sale of the season passport and the ability to automatically renew it.The closure of Dragon Quest Tact is the latest in a culling of smartphone gacha-style games, including Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia, Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier, Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai A Hero’s Bonds, and more.
Dragon Quest Tact’s developer Aiming Inc. was also the subject of an investigation into insider trading charges against two Square Enix employees including the indictment of Balan Wonderworld developer Yuji Naka, who bought shares in Aiming and other Square Enix partners when he learned of their collaborations with Square Enix to develop games. A judge found Naka and Taisuke Sazaki guilty of these charges and sentenced him to 2.5 years in prison (suspended for four years) and a 172.5 million dollar fine that includes the amount of his original stock purchase.

“Thank you for playing DRAGON QUEST TACT.
We regret to announce we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the DRAGON QUEST TACT app service as of 0:00 on Feb. 29, 2024 (PST).
From the DRAGON QUEST TACT Production Team, we apologize for the abrupt announcement but are sincerely grateful for the support we’ve received from our players.
Since DRAGON QUEST TACT’s launch on Jan. 27, 2021, we’ve strived to provide an incredible and enjoyable gaming experience for our players every day that could exceed the day before. However, we’ve come to the conclusion that it would be difficult to continue maintaining the app experience, therefore we are ending the app service.
Although we only have a short time left until service ends on Feb. 29, 2024, we hope you will continue to enjoy playing Dragon Quest Tact until the final day.”
